⁄ RENOVATE ⁄ MAINTENANCE ⁄ I’M A BURGLAR – HERE’S HOW TO OUTSMART ME
From burglars’ mouths to your ears: Here are the vulnerabilities they look for when they’re deciding whether to rob you blind.
Keep a car parked in your driveway - burglars think twice if there is a car parked in a driveway
Keep your doors and windows locked - burglars say they “break in” simply by walking through an unlocked door or climbing through an unlocked window
Consider making your door kick proof - yes apparently this is possible to do with special locks
Don’t ignore a knock at the door - sometimes burglars check to see if anyone is home, by knocking on the door. If you answer, they will make an excuse and leave
Keep your radio or television on while you’re at work
Prune those shrubs - Burglars value their privacy while they’re breaking and entering. Theoretically, if every house on a particular street seems empty, a burglar will choose to target the house that offers the most privacy. To deter would-be burglars, keep the shrubs around your house well-trimmed
Keep the outside of your house well-lit - solar downlights are an effective way to light pathways, without impacting on our dark sky light restrictions
Change up your daily routine
Watch what you say on social media - those holiday snaps you post up on facebook could actually be announcing when you are leaving for holiday and when your house will be empty
Get a camera and/or alarm system
